Today on Christianity. Is Thanksgiving Truly a Christian Holiday? About Christianity. He meant that church members should not have a close relationship with unbelievers to the point that they were together standing side by side and locked up together.

Paul continued to explain why he wanted believers not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. He wrote:. Church members should recognize that light and darkness will never come together. The closer you get to lawlessness, the stronger is their influence. God wants to develop a closer relationship with us.

However, this is impossible if we are still flirting with sin, Satan, and the world. What will happen if we separate ourselves from the evil ways of this world? What will happen if we live a holy life? That will be the ultimate reward for those who choose not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. The main point of the Apostle Paul when he wrote II Corinthians is to admonish Christians to never get entangled with unbelievers.

It is so dangerous to get involved deeply with unbelievers that it is better not to be associated with them. Thus, for this reason, here are some of the practical ways on how you can apply II Corinthians Money can be a great motivator for some selfish people. If the main driver of your business partner is only money, there will come a time when you have to cheat customers just to get more profit. Thus, it is better to avoid doing business with ungodly people as they may influence you to abandon Christian principle and be more like them.

Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. As you can see, the Bible is consistent when it comes to being a friend of the world. Surround yourself with foolish people and you will eventually become like them. But surround yourself with wise and godly people, and you will have a more positive and right influence. Choosing a spouse can have a dramatic impact in your life.

If you believe that marriage is difficult, how much more if you marry someone outside your faith? Worst of all, your relationship will not just suffer, but also your children. Think of these scenarios. There are just so many problems you will surely encounter marrying an ungodly woman or man.

Some people go to the extreme end of applying the instruction of Paul. For them, they shun away any relationship with unbelievers and therefore should never even interact with these type of people. It is worth noting how Paul wrote II Corinthians It means that we must not be yoked together with unbelievers in such a way that they are negatively influencing us. Not all unbelievers are evil.

Some still have something good in them. I have a lot of friends outside the church. They are good people. In fact, it is virtually impossible to avoid these people unless you live as a hermit in the mountain. Please note that we live in the world but we must not be of the world.

The important thing we must do is when we meet people who negatively influence us, who make us want to compromise our godly principle, we must avoid them as much as we can. Jesus instructed all believers to be a light of the world. We must serve as a good example to unbelievers that when they see our light, they will glorify our Father in heaven. To make sure you understand what it really means to be a light of the world, please read my blog explaining this concept here. And that concludes our Bible study on II Corinthians I hope, by reading this blog, you now have a deeper understanding of what it means of not being unequally yoked together with unbelievers.

If we truly believe in God and Jesus Christ, then we must follow their commandments and that include II Corinthians Like Like. That verse is written for the Christians in Corinth where there are a lot of Gentile converts. There are those who have been called to the Body of Christ when they were already married to an unbeliever. Moreso, I would consider the ancient nature of the words to have lost a good deal of relevance.

I understand change is feared but, so should we fear hiding, so should we fear isolation, stagnation, and importantly a chance to learn from the evolving intelligence and consciousness of the good sisters and brothers that do have courage to learn and change.

In Deuteronomy 7 , Moses is instructing the Israelites in their responsibilities as the people of God. They have been freed from slavery and are now free men, about to enter the Promised Land. But Moses gives a warning:.

However they rationalized it, the Israelites formed covenants between themselves and people who neither knew nor served God. In so doing, they were led astray. Over and over in Scripture, we see this theme repeated. Two are Samson, who repeatedly sought out unbelieving women, a choice which in the end destroyed him Judges 14 , and Solomon, the wisest man in the world — until his many wives led him to worship other gods 1 Kings If Christ is truly King of our lives, our most intimate selves should be submitted to His influence.

How then can we unite a Spirit-led soul to one in rebellion against God? This is who everyone is apart from Christ. Therefore, those of us in Christ cannot be in a harmonious, God-pleasing relationship with an unbeliever. There is no fellowship between light and darkness 2 Cor.

God knows this. This is for our spiritual protection! Righteousness has nothing in common with a person who believes they are good enough apart from God:. Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? It may look like these things from the outside, but will never be unified within.
